Excavation and Context

Historical sources have suggested that the church may have been founded by Saint Liudger, the first Bishop of Münster, who died in 809 CE, and that it was established on the site of a bishop's estate. While the new evidence does not directly confirm the founder, it does demonstrate that the location was used for Christian burial during the period of early ecclesiastical expansion in Westphalia.
